To expand overseas presence
BANGALORE: Gujarat-based Marck Biosciences Ltd., manufacturer of parenterals (sterile containers for injectible, IV fluids and fluid medication) on Tuesday entered the southern market by launching its operations here.
Bhavesh Patel, Managing Director, Marck, told reporters here that the southern States accounted for 28 per cent of the Rs. 1,600-crore domestic parenterals market and the company had an initial target of Rs. 25 crore in revenues and 7 to 8 per cent market share this year.
"We had not ventured beyond our traditional markets in Gujarat and Rajasthan and now we are able to expand because of increased production capacity with an investment of Rs. 72 crore in our plant near Ahmedabad'' Mr. Patel said.
Capacity addition
The capacity is projected to grow to 230 million units (65 million now) of small volume containers and 61 million units (now 29 million units) of large volume containers, he said.
"The capacity addition will help us find a larger market share among corporate hospitals in the South and expand our presence overseas. We are now exporting to parts of Africa and Latin America, Russia and adjoining Central Asia and trying to obtain local certification for sales to new areas such as the Philippines, Malaysia, Singapore and Indonesia", Mr. Patel said.
Mr Patel said, "We seek to capture major share by direct export initiatives and business outsourcing options." Marcks Latin American foray is aimed at spearheading its plan to cross the target turnover of Rs 100 crore in 2008-09, the company said in statement.
Brazil, a large market for dry powder injections and oncology injectables, provides strong opportunities to Marck by forging alliance with Brazilian Pharma majors in diluents segment, it added. Marck has presence in more than 60 countries across four continents. - PTI
